Meet Vasiliki. Kozani, Greece. Mother of two daughters. Works on an old sewing machine which is the legacy of her grandmother. Love to Knit.

VASILIKI'S STORY

My name is Vasiliki and I live in Kozani, a small town in northern Greece. I am the founder, designer and maker-in-chief behind the knitwear line Plexida. I work together with my two daughters, Alexandra and Tina, who are my studio assistants.

I have been knitting for over 30 years. It all started back in primary school when I learned how to hold the needles during a housekeeping course. Of all the kinds of art I have tried since then — such as painting, pottery and crafting — knitting was always my favorite activity. It’s portable, it’s relaxing, and the outcome is highly appreciated when you live in a cold place like my town.

Three years ago, I started longing to share my knitting work with the world, and my family and friends encouraged me to pursue this aspiration. I tried my best to create patterns that met every kind of need and taste and began selling my knits on Etsy without knowing what would follow. The instantly positive feedback assured me that I had found my niche. Shortly after, I decided to quit my day job and focus solely on my knitwear collection. As my business grows, I feel more and more fulfilled doing what I love.

Our line specializes in hand-knit and crocheted garments and includes a wide variety of clothes and accessories. Our products require a lot of handwork and are made with great attention to each detail. Even though I have knitted countless items over the years, I am fascinated every single time a piece is finished; it still amazes me that some balls of yarn and a pair of hands can create a garment.

Whenever I have spare time, I love to work with my sewing machine, which is a legacy from my grandmother. At the moment, I am only experimenting with some personal sewing projects, but I would love to share this work with others sometime in the future.
